DOS Staff
The Program Units
Four major program units make up the Office of the Dean of Students:
- Willard
Straight Hall
One of the first student unions in North America, the
Straight is a hub of campus activities. Willard Straight
Hall hosts a wide variety of student-oriented events
and serves as the headquarters for many student organizations
and the Office of the Dean of Students. Many of the service
areas are managed and operated by students.
- Office
of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs
The office assists members of sororities and fraternities-about
one-third of the undergraduate population-with social
programs, financial and facilities management, alumni
relations, and fundraising.
- Office
of New Student Programs & Student Support
Orientation programs help new students feel at home
on campus and become indispensable members of the Cornell
community. The office is alos integrally involved in
campus-wide plans to increase the appreciation of diversity
and oversess a variety of peer support, counselor training,
and crisis management programs for students.
- Student
Activities Office
The office organizes fairs, events, and programs to
provide students with opportunities to grow and make
personal connections. The more than 550 student organizations
get support and advice from the Student Activities Office.
In addition, the Dean of Students oversees the Cornell United Religious Work.
- Cornell United Religious Work
The CURW, house in Anabel Taylor Hall, is the first interfaith program
on a major American campus. The group comprises more than twenty affiliated
communities that offer programs of worship, study, and social life, as
well as opportunities for students to engage in interfaith dialogue.
A recent addition to the Dean of Students is the International Students and
Scholars Office.
- International Students and Scholars
Office
The International Students and Scholars Office provides assistance
to individual international students and foreign academic staff and their
families by advising them concerning federal immigration, tax and labor
regulations, and by providing counseling on personal, academic and cultural
matters. In addition, the office promotes cross-cultural awareness in
the Cornell community through educational programming, such as orientation,
cultural adjustment, and cross - cultural communication.
